Located just over Rainbow Bridge from Fidalgo Island, the town is bordered by the Swinomish Slough to the west and the agricultural-rich Skagit Valley to the east. La Conner and the surrounding area have long been home to nationally known artists, many of them celebrated in the collections of the city's world-class Museum of Northwest Art.
